The top 10 Scientific Inventions

The public will be called on to vote on the invention which is the most significant. The Science Museum in London has chosen a top 10 list of its most significant objects, as part of events marking its centenary celebrations. It asks a simple question : Which was the more important invention - the railway revolution ushered in by Stephenson’s Rocket or the life-saving achievements of penicillin? It has listed the 10 inventions and the public is going to be asked to vote. The 10 in the list are :

Steam engine
V2 rocket engine
Electric telegraph
Stephenson’s Rocket
X-ray machine
Model T Ford
Penicillin
Pilot ACE Computer
DNA double helix and the
Apollo 10 capsule


Men Out Performed

A report on higher education suggests that the female students are ahead of men students in almost every single measure. This is available from the study done on UK universtities. A Higher Education Policy Institute report shows that women are more likely to get places in the top universities and go on to get better grades. Women also outnumber men in high status subjects, such as law and medicine.

Women have been entering university in greater numbers than men in recent years - with the participation rate for young women standing at 49%, compared with 38% of young men.
