Microsoft feels the economic downturn

Friday Jul 24, 2009

The global economic downturn, especially the US and European economic decline in the last one year, has started haunting even the mighty Microsoft.
While analysts were expecting Microsoft to report muted results for the June 2009 quarter, they never expected it to post a 29% decline in net income. The company was badly hit by the 5% decline in computer shipments and also over 15% decline in Windows operating software sales.
The company has also projected a flat outlook for the coming quarters, citing weak economic conditions. The Microsoft results are in fact an eye opener for all those optimistic investors who are blindly investing in equities and commodities in the past few months.
