US was the world’s largest mobile market a few years back, but China over took it due to its scorching pace of domestic growth. And now China is the largest mobile market in the world with a size that is over 30% higher than US.

In the last few years, India has seen a massive increase in its mobile market size due to special efforts taken by the government and also the private mobile operators. The rates offered are one of the lowest in the world, and the leading private mobile operators have tied up with all the leading mobile manufacturers to design and supply millions and millions of low cost handsets.

All these have resulted in India becoming very close third largest mobile market in the world, after China and US.

With India growing at over 30% year on year, and US hardly growing in mobile market, India can be expected to overtake US , in the next few months.

And with hardly 20 % phone penetration, and with massive young earning population, the Indian growth story is expected to continue at least for another decade.

Thus, by the end of 2015 or so, India might grow far ahead of US, and the gap could be so wide that US may not be able to make it up for ever.
